Madrid: Festival of Lights to be held in October

Mayor of Madrid José Luis Martínez-Almeida announced they are going to host the first edition of the International Festival of Light to commemorate the inscription of the Landscape of Light candidacy on the UNESCO World Heritage list. It will be held from October 28 – 31, 2021 from 9 pm – 12 pm with 24 artistic initiatives, and will show the work of artists and lighting professionals from Spain and the European Union.

Designers, architects and citizens themselves will show projects of decorative lighting on facades, squares, plant elements and streets, to achieve a total transformation of the environment that will allow another view of the city during the days of the festival.

Mayor Martínez-Almeida announced that, from the first quarter of 2022, CentroCentro will host an Interpretation center of the Landscape of Light to bring the visitors closer to the values ​​of this property as a historical landscape in the urban environment. The center will have an interactive mockup and explanatory videos in which one will be able to see a description of the candidacy, its evolution and history, as well as its influence in America and data on its protection and management plan, reports Market Research Telecast.

The City Council said that the festival will promote “public-private collaboration in sponsorship matters” and it will also serve as a connection with light festivals which were already held in other European cities like Lyon, Frankfurt, Brussels, Lisbon and Tallinn.
