Las Palmas unveils development plan for San Roque agreed with residents
Las Palmas has approved the development plan for San Roque neighbourhood agreed with residents.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Las Palmas Augusto Hidalgo pointed out that the move will improve environmental protection and improve quality of life in the neighbourhood.
As part of the plan, Las Palmas will expand pedestrian areas and improve accessibility as well as mobility in the city while creating new public spaces to meet the needs of the residents.
The plan includes construction of new car parks as well as protection of buildings with heritage and architectural value, with city authorities reminding that the development plan was drawn up in collaboration with residents and the local administration.
Councillor for city planning Javier Doreste noted “this important initiative that we approved today will make it possible to improve the san Roque neighbourhood through the creation of new squares and green areas for leisure and enjoyment of residents.”
He added that construction of new roads and car parks will improve mobility and concluded that the participatory model under which the development plan was drawn up will help the Canary Islands to modernise and grow.
As part of the plan, city authorities introduced new rules for size and style of new buildings to protect buildings of interest and aesthetics of Las Palmas.
