Tallinn has launched the Tark Tallinn online platform to provide access to information from open data and sensor systems in the city.

Headed by Mayor of Tallinn Mihhail Kõlvart, city authorities pointed out that the move is part of broader digitalisation efforts aimed at making data more accessible.

Tallinn’s digital director Martin Männil noted “our goal is to improve accessibility of data gathered by city’s sensor and devices connected to the so-called internet of things.”

“Every year, more and more sensors provide publicly available data about what is happening in the city,” he stressed and added “in the future, we would like to interface as many such data streams as possible with the Tark Tallinn platform and make them available through it.”

The platform currently grants access to weather information, traffic conditions, air quality, free bicycle parking spaces and more.

City authorities pointed out that personalised platform services will are planned to help users view data they are interested in, stressing that expansion of the platform is underway.

Besides new services, the platform will be gradually expanded to include data from more sensors and devices.

Tallinn noted that it is the third largest publisher of open data in Estonia and added that its data is available through the country’s open data portal as well.
