Seville Mayor Muñoz presents social project to gather 500 tonnes of food
Seville is taking part in a food collection project dubbed Great Collection 2022 launched by the Seville Food Bank (BAS). Mayor of Seville Antonio Muñoz presented the project with BAS representatives and called on the residents to show solidarity.
He pointed out that 480 collection points will be opened from 25 November, with approximately 5,000 volunteers taking part in the project. Muñoz noted that the project aims to collect 500 tonnes of food and expressed belief that “Seville will be up to the task.”
Donors will be able to give food or cash, with city authorities pointing out that oil, milk, rice and grains are in high demand. BAS head Francisco Arteaga noted that the food collected physically with the help of volunteers and donated money will be provided to families in Seville.
He stressed that the project is the food bank’s most important annual activity and added that success hinges on participation of citizens. Muñoz noted that Seville fully supports the project and reminded that the food bank “carries out fundamental work in support of the most vulnerable.”
“I am convinced that it will do so again in the current economic situation,” he concluded. The BAS called on Seville residents to take part in this year’s food collection project under the slogan “eating cannot be a luxury.”
