The Hague invites its citizens to help create environmental plan
The Hague invited citizens in November to take part in the creation of the city’s environmental plan. Under Mayor of The Hague Jan van Zanen, the city is preparing environmental measures and projects to be implemented in the period up to 2050.
City authorities stressed the importance of citizen participation, pointing out that residents and businesses should have a say in the city’s plans.
The plan will include a long-term approach to public spaces including streets and parks as well as track the effects of implemented measures to help city authorities make adjustments where needed.
Besides addressing environmental and social issues, the plan aims to improve quality of life, health and well-being of everyone in The Hague.
City authorities pointed out that new nation-wide environmental regulations will come into force in July 2023, stressing that new rules require all municipalities in the Netherlands to draw up long-term environmental plans.
The discussion on The Hague’s environmental plan will take place at the end of November, when residents will be able to take part in the decision-making process, give comments and put forward proposals.
The Hague made the draft plan available to residents at the start of November.
City authorities pointed out that municipal employees will be happy to inform residents about plans and measures, and concluded that all who live in The Hague should join the discussion on how to shape the city’s future.
