Dublin’s Smart Tourism Programme wins award at Global Tourism Innovation Summit
Dublin won an award at the Global Tourism Innovation Summit in Seville for its Smart Tourism Programme.
The City Council headed by Lord Mayor of Dublin Caroline Conroy won the Digital and Innovation award for its implementation of disruptive and innovative business models in tourism.
Dublin authorities pointed out that Global Tourism Innovation awards are among the biggest in international tourism and are presented for innovative solutions and best practices in the industry.
Dublin’s programme was the only Irish nomination and the award it received was the first of its kind to go to Ireland.
The City Council drew up the award-winning programme in cooperation with the national tourism development authority Fáilte Ireland, local authorities, Smart Dublin and the Dublin City Council Culture Company.
The programme is aimed at positioning Dublin as a top “smart destination” through partnerships, research and innovative projects.
“This award has firmly put Dublin on the map as a world leading innovative destination,” programme manager Barry Rogers stressed and added “It’s a testament to the real impact of our work and the power of collaboration.”
Liz Halpin, Dublin representative at Fáilte Ireland, added “this award recognises the ambition of Fáilte Ireland, Dublin City Council, Smart Dublin and Dublin City Council Culture Company to capitalise on our city’s expertise and knowledge of cutting-edge technology to help to rebuild our tourism industry as more sustainable, accessible and innovative than ever before.”
She pointed out that the programme will help Dublin to recover and grow its economy by using new technologies and taking advantage of the opportunities they provide.
