Lord Mayor Gail Smith skydives for the charity!
Lord Mayor of Sheffield Gail Smith, together with her family, friends and volunteers took part in the charity to raise money for The Sheffield Teaching Hospital Trust, The Salvation Army, and Friends of Hi5s, the Lord Mayor’s charity for young people with learning disabilities.
The Lord mayor went skydiving at an altitude of more than 4,500 kilometres to raise money. The group of daring skydivers was set off for Hibaldstow Skydiving Centre from the Lodge Community Centre in Church Lane. This charity has been successful so far and the skydive has raised more than £1,700 from 83 donations for her three chosen charities.
“I am doing the dive with my sons-in-law Chris and Danny and a few friends, but also the young people I work with from Hi5s youth group. These are young people with learning disabilities and I feel if they are willing to do it, then I should too. Please if you can give just a few pounds, you can make a big difference”, stated Lord Mayor Gail Smith.
Lord Mayor of Sheffield cares for young people. This is why she set up a charity to support young people with learning disabilities. Her charity, for example, takes them on holiday every year. She wants to use her year as Lord Mayor to bring people together and to say thank you to all the marvelous people who have kept everyone safe by working hard throughout the pandemic.
The group of skydivers jumped at 11 am and they landed in the designated area of the airfield. They had been given a 30-minute slot to complete the jump. 15 young people from the Friends of Hi5s group also came along to watch the skydive from the ground. This incredible and unique charity sets a great example of new ways to raise money by doing new and exciting things.
Charities play an essential role in society and help people realize that it is possible to bless others in a world full of uncertainties. Giving to charity gives a deeper meaning to life and helps the people to find the purpose in the society.
By participating in this charity, Lord Mayor of Sheffield showed that she would (literally!) jump off a plane to help people. By doing this, she has set a great example for other people to donate and start helping others people more. (photo credit: Gordon Johnson/Pixabay)
