The start of Christmas: Mayor of Florence opened Palazzo Vecchio concert
As the year draws to a close, the focus of many cities is to attract tourists. Because of this fact, many manifestations are held during the whole December. One example that announced the start of the holiday season in Florence is the opening of Salone di Cinquecento.
The whole event was opened by mayor of Florence Dario Nardella. The ReMuTo regional youth orchestra played many famous and original pieces for all visitors.
Composition by British musician Benson Taylor was premiered during the opening of the manifestation. He was primary a composer for the soundtrack Orange is The New Black. Currently he is residing in Italy, which is the reason he is part of this project. The tune presented, called “Travelling Home for Christmas” also included a special part, which was a violin solo, played by the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella.
Taylor stated before the concert: ”This was quite unusual gesture. I just saw him rehearse and he’s a very good violin player”. They both agreed that the new piece made by Taylor is a mix of both cultures, both British and Italian.
The primary focus during this concert of Mayor Nardella was to address the upcoming holiday celebrations and ask all citizens of Florence for kindness in these times of pandemic.
Mayor Nardella said: “We would like to dedicate this concert and all future manifestations, especially Christmas, to kindness. There is a lot of negativity and aggression around us and we must fight it”. He then continued that he is happy that the whole manifestation was realised, despite the health concerns regarding Covid-19.
Last year’s Palazzo Vecchio manifestation was primarily held online, with only some logistic staff present at the site. This year, Mayor Nardella and all visitors were able to feel in full the beauty and emotions of whole concert. Hopefully, mayor Dario Nardella will continue to support and even participate in these types of events. Many are looking forward for his next similar project and hope it will achieve their expectations. (photo credit: theflorentine.net)
