Zaragoza will allocate 7 million euros next year to improve streets and sidewalks
The Mayor of Zaragoza, Jorge Azcón, accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure, Patricia Cavero, has visited the works that are being carried out in Violante de Hungary, confirming the commitment to improve Zaragoza streets in 2021 and make the city safer and more accessible. In this regard, he explained that next year the city will spend 7 million euros: 2 million for a new asphalt operation with a specific item that will be implemented through a framework agreement ensuring continuity of investment for three years, and 5 million for the conservation of public roads, sidewalks, and removal of architectural barriers.
During this year, despite the pandemic, the Infrastructure area has improved 84,400 m² of road, totally or partially renovating the surface of about 60 streets. This is an investment of 1.9 million euros, tripling the 649,000 euros in 2019.
The Urgent Intervention Plan on Public Roads was launched in April, during the state of alarm, to take advantage of the low traffic and help reactivate the economy. This first phase focused on the improvement of bus lanes and roads that supported a lot of bus traffic. In summer, the second phase was carried out the most urgent District Boards requests, and now the plan has been expanded with another 1 00,000 euros that will allow the renovation of an additional 4,400 m2. Also, the work will adapt six pedestrian crossings eliminating cracks and barriers.
The plan has also made it possible to fix the potholes, with more than 3,200 actions, improving safety, especially for motorcyclists and cyclists.
