Mayor Filipović highlights Rijeka’s outstanding progress regarding smart city solutions
Mayor of Rijeka Marko Filipović participated in the panel discussion ‘’Through innovations to sustainable cities’’ which was held as part of 8th Lider’s conference ‘’Smart Cities’’.
Mayor Filipović stated: “Strategic planning and development of the Smart City concept through the Rijeka City Development Plan 2021 – 2027 is a continuation of previous activities that eventually led to Rijeka being declared the most digital transformation-ready city in Croatia’’.
‘’Such a concept suggests a city in which citizens, thanks to modern technologies and innovative solutions, with their involvement, creativity and knowledge, in cooperation with public administration, institutions, and utilities, lead the sustainable development of the city in which they live,’’ he continued.
The conference brought together city representatives, smart solution entrepreneurs, academia, and the public sector to debate solutions to some of today’s most pressing issues. Furthermore, they also showcased some of the best examples of smart city solutions in their respective cities.
Quality governance based on sustainable strategies, accountability, transparency, citizen participation, reducing emissions, energy efficiency, waste management, smart mobility, and city digitalization were all discussed as important factors in ensuring long-term progress in cities.
Alongside mayor Filipović, Mayor of Karlovac Damir Mandić, Mayor of Varaždin Neven Bosilj and the Mayor of Zaprešić, and the President of the Association of Cities Željko Turk also participated in the panel discussion. They presented new projects and examples of city management and innovation implemented with the goal of improving the quality of life.
The goal of Lider’s 8th Smart Cities Conference, which was held at the Zagreb Fair, was to provide concrete solutions and discuss existing strategies for implementing smart city solutions.
