Mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig continues with the plan of making the city climate-neutral by 2040. He moved climate protection and climate adaptation to the center of the city politics.

Mayor Ludwig stated via social media: ” We want Vienna to become climate neutral by 2040. It is time to roll up our sleeves. We are not starting from scratch: we have had an environmental protection program for over 20 years; thus we are a role model for many other cities. As an example, over 50% of Vienna are green areas.”

He realizes that it is very important to react fast to problems that consider climate change and the mayor plans to do that by making important decisions that consider climate management.

The Vienna Climate Roadmap also concerns alternative energies, new forms of mobility, use of geothermal energy, etc. Also, the approval of solar systems will become less complicated. Overall, Vienna intends to invest almost EUR3 billion in climate protection measures until 2025.

The city of Vienna is on a good path of becoming a 15-minute city, a city with safe routes for cyclists and pedestrians, a city without combustion engines, with more greenery and expanded public transport. This plan also improves air quality which will result in better health for all citizens. (photo credit: time.news)
