Mayor of Rijeka Marko Filipovic has traditionally received the best students from Rijeka’s elementary schools, it was announced on the official website of the city of Rijeka.

On this occasion, Mayor Filipovic told the young students that knowledge was something that ‘’no one could ever take away from them’’ and something that they should be proud of.

Mayor Filipovic also stated that the City of Rijeka has been awarding scholarships to students for many years based on a number of factors, including academic excellence, and that the recipients were encouraged to apply for scholarships for their future studies.

The students who attended the reception are those who, in addition to having achieved exceptionally good results in school, have also demonstrated amazing abilities over their eight years of education through a variety of extracurricular and humanitarian activities.

“You are facing new challenges, enrollment in high school, but above all I wish you a long warm summer, to have a good rest and enjoy, because you deserve it,’’ Mayor Filipovic stated.

Petra Petelin, a student of the Ivan Zajc Elementary School, stated: “The future is before us and I believe that we will continue on the same path, learn, work and acquire new knowledge and skills in order to become young responsible people who will be the future of our city and state.’’

In addition to Mayor Filipovic, the reception was also attended by the Deputy Mayor Sandra Krpan and Head of the Department of Education Sanda Sušanj. (photo credit: Vedran Karuza/Novi list)
