Hamburg announces new urban development project
Hamburg has announced a new urban development project in Bergedorf borough, to be launched through the Integrated District Development (RISE) framework.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Hamburg Peter Tschentscher pointed out that the project will revitalise the Bergedorf centre and develop the area.
As part of the project, city authorities will modernise the Port of Hamburg and expand road infrastructure to strengthen connection with the Hamburg city centre.
The project will make the areas in question more attractive to work, live, relax and shop.
Dorothee Stapelfeldt, head of urban development, pointed out that “RISE strengthens social cohesion in Hamburg and creates attractive and sustainable neighbourhoods and lively centres.”
She noted that the city earmarked approximately EUR 4.4 million for the first investments, which include a redesign of the town hall park in Bergedorf and a new promenade, among other.
Bergedorf borough head Cornelia Schmidt-Hoffmann described the announced project as a milestone in the further development of the borough.
“The funding can be used to rethink⦠mobility ideas, the design of public spaces and the structural strengthening of retail,” she added and concluded that the move “is a good signal for all Bergedorf residents.”
Hamburg and Bergedorf offices announced they will work together on additional projects and coordinate their development efforts.
