Düsseldorf has laid the foundation stone for the new children, youth and family centre in Gerresheim borough.

City authorities headed by Mayor of Düsseldorf Stephan Keller pointed out that the new building will house a day-care centre for 110 children, an area for youth leisure and a family café.

City manager Burkhard Hintzsche laid the foundation stone and noted “the new house for children, young people and families will create a family-friendly place in Gerresheim.” He added that it will focus on sports, youth support and workshops for parents.

City authorities pointed out that children and young people will be involved in further design of the new centre, which is to serve as a meeting place for youth and families.

The new centre will boast an outdoor sports complex and gardens, and should be completed in April next year.

City authorities stressed that the centre will be accessible to disabled people and added that high environmental standards in construction will contribute to environmental protection.

The building will have a green roof with solar panels, exclusively LED lighting and will be constructed from environmentally friendly materials.

Düsseldorf noted that the cost of the project is estimated at roughly EUR 11 million and concluded that it will be implemented by municipal company Immobilien Projektmanagement Düsseldorf.
