Amsterdam: caffes and restaurants can extend terraces during winter
The city of Amsterdam reached a decision that they will allow the extension of terrace permits for caffes and restaurants until March 1, 2022.
Last summer, due to the pandemic and after indoor activities got banned, about 1,200 entrepreneurs got a temporary permit for bigger terraces.
Mayor of Amsterdam Femke Halsema said: “The Amsterdam cafes and restaurants look back on a difficult period and are still not having an easy time. We therefore want to give the catering industry as much space as possible. Amsterdam residents and visitors can also make use of many extra terraces spread throughout the city this winter.”
The City has also extended working time: instead of closing at 8:00 p.m., everyone can stay opened until 10:00 p.m.
All those who already got the official permit for the mentioned extension during the past summer do not need to submit a new application, but they will be notified by the municipality how to extend the existing temporary permit. The terrace extension is free of charge.
