Aalborg named Denmark’s second best city for studying
Aalborg has been named Denmark’s second-best student city for 2022 in the newest rankings published by studentum.dk. Aalborg ranked second behind Aarhus and ahead of Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital and largest city.
Mayor of Aalborg Thomas Kastrup-Larsen stated on social media: ‘’I think it’s great that Aalborg has beaten Copenhagen and is voted by students as Denmark’s 2nd best city for education. But I also think we should dream big and reach for first place.’’
With a nationwide questionnaire, studentum.dk looked into what factors are most important to young people when deciding on where they want to study. 13 factors were found to be most important to them: career prospects, transportation options, school reputation, city life, student jobs, affordable housing, professionalism, and culture, sports and leisure activities.
Aarhus managed to rank first when it comes to local public transportation networks. NT (Nordjyllands Trafikselskab) is in charge of bus transportation in the North Danish Region, including Aalborg’s city buses. Aalborg has a stable and well-developed local transportation system with various buses running frequently to and from the University.
Furthermore, Aalborg also managed to rank very high in terms of student jobs and urban life. Both categories were found to be very important to prospective students, earning Aalborg a very position in this year’s rankings of best cities for education.
‘’The potential is clearly there and it’s super important for Aalborg and North Jutland, that young people from all over the country choose Aalborg,’’ mayor Kastrup-Larsen further stated.
Aalborg has successfully transitioned from a former industrial city to a knowledge and culture hub in recent years and has become home to numerous international talents.
