Biography
With the rapid development of industry, especially in the last 40 years, came great benefits, but also great costs. This process brought many disastrous consequences to the world, with, for example, CO2 emissions skyrockeingt.
The current mayor of Valencia, Joan Ribó, is part of the stream that highly combats climate change and the rising pollution.
Born in a small village Manresa in 1961, mayor Ribó finished there primary and secondary school. He moved to Valencia after his application for Polytechnic University of Valencia was accepted. There he focused on agricultural subjects, primarily on food technology and non-polluting pesticides.
After his graduation, Joan Ribó also started developing interest in politics. This especially accelerated in the new millenium, when he held key offices in the city of Valencia. This has led to his first candidacy for mayor in 2012. He came up third, but these elections established a voting base for the next edition. In 2015, there were another election and Joan Ribó won.
With the inauguration, Joan Ribó started implementing his ideas to all spheres of local administration. Because of his interest, he was always keen on implementing policies and regulations that preserve the environment and reduce pollution. One of the first international agreements signed by Mayor Ribó was with The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN. Furthermore, through work done by mayor Ribó, Valencia became one of the candidates for European Capital of Innovation 2020. His promotion of technology and innovation, enabled the city to achieve this status. Latest programme presented by Mayor Ribó is a continuation of opinion, since its only purpose is to establish the city of Valencia as sustainable, healthier and prosperous.
Programme called “Strategic Framework of Valencia”, presented by mayor Ribó and Valencia City Council, calls for redevelopment of city planning. The main goal is to form urban plans which will be in accordance with the European Green Act.
Mayor Ribó aims at focusing on a new agenda, which will establish methodology and framework for all future projects and investments, in order to make as much progress as possible by the year 2030. (photo credit: wikipedia)
