Ever since he assumed the mayoral office, Kostas Bakoyannis has been dedicated to reinventing the city services as well as reinventing the city as a whole. With closing some parts of the city center for cars, mayor of Athens is reclaiming public spaces and is making the city greener and more sustainable.  He is also dedicated to projects which involve both remodeling the Ancient sites area of Athens and protecting the archaeological sites. Bakoyannis is passionate about adopting a new model of sustainable mobility in the city and pays special attention to green spaces in Athens. He wants to create greener and more environmentally friendly neighborhoods by making more parks in Athens neighborhood areas. Furthermore, mayor of Athens has appointed the first European chief heat officer in the city to protect people from soaring temperatures, which is one of the city's biggest problems, and this way address climate change.  He has also started the project of narrowing the car lanes in one of the biggest, most important avenues to reduce emissions in the city.
