Defying the pandemic and Brexit, the city partnership between Birmingham and Frankfurt am Main is stronger than ever. A tradition that has lasted for almost 20 years is the Frankfurt Christmas Market in Birmingham, which the Tourismus+Congress GmbH Frankfurt organizes very successfully as a municipal company in our twin city.

Like the traditional Christmas market in Frankfurt, the Christmas market in Birmingham had to be canceled due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, Birmingham and Frankfurt are showing their solidarity at this year’s digital Frankfurt Christmas market, the details are on this link.

For this purpose, Councilor Ian Ward of the Birmingham City Council, sent a personal video greeting in which he expresses the firm bond between the two cities and the hope that he will welcome his German friends back to the Frankfurt Christmas Market in Birmingham in 2021.

Mayor of Frankfurt, Peter Feldmann, thanked his colleague from Birmingham for these very authentic and warm words and emphasized: “The protection of our citizens is our top priority. Even if the cancellation of the Christmas markets hurt, it was the only right decision. The Christmas greetings from Birmingham warm my heart all the more. I also wish our British friends in Birmingham a Merry Christmas, a lot of strength and health. Merry Christmas!”
