Sweden tests life without cars

How dependent are you on your car in everyday life? In the Without the Car project, 21 test households from 12 neighboring municipalities will take up the challenge of testing car-free everyday life. The project is taking part from April 8 to June 30, 2021. Hägvide family is one of selected families.

The test households agree to avoid as far as possible using their car for the short car journeys (less than 10 km) during the test period and they are instead given the opportunity to use alternatives such as electric bike and electric bicycle with room for at least two children.

During the journey, the participants will share their experiences of coping without a car. The purpose of the project is to draw attention to alternatives to cars in everyday life and to inspire more people to break their habitual car habits.

“We have an ambition to reduce our climate footprint! By replacing the car with electric bikes during a test period, we hope to prove that everyday life can work at least as well, or maybe even better”, said Johan and Josefin Hägvide from one of the selected families in Stockholm.

The project Without the car is a collaboration within the Energy and Climate Advisory Service in the Stockholm region. More details can be found on this link. Photo Lena Lindell for Pixabay
