Rome entered the race to host Expo 2030

The Italian government, led by the prime minister Mario Draghi, proposed the capital city of Rome as a candidate to host Expo 2030.

Mr Draghi stated: “It is without doubt a great opportunity for the development of the city”.

Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi welcomes this decision. She stated: “Expo is one of the most important international events, an event capable of attracting investments, proposing major innovation projects to the world and relaunching employment and the economy in all of Italy.”

She continued: “A challenging and exciting journey officially begins today. We have to beat the candidacies of Moscow and Busan.”

Russia was the first country which submitted an official bid for Expo 2030. They proposed Moscow for Expo host earlier in April. After Moscow, South Korea proposed Busan in June for the same role, while Rome is the third city in which entered this prestigious race.
