Porto celebrates 25th anniversary of making the UNESCO World Heritage list
25 years ago, UNESCO recognized the Historical Center of Porto, and placed it on the World Heritage list. The anniversary celebration will be held on December 9th at the historical building Casa do Infante in the city. It will include the presentation of the new Management and Sustainability Plan for the Historical Center of Porto, developed by Porto’s municipal company SRU.
One of the main goals described in the document is continuation of restoration of buildings. In regard to this, it should be noted that between 2010 and 2021, a total of 786 buildings were restored in the geographical area of the Historic Center of Porto, Ponte Luiz I and Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar.
The mentioned plan aims to implement an integrated and participatory management and monitoring model. This model consists of various people and institutions engaging in monitoring and evaluating a project. The goal is to have an active involvement of both residents of the Historic Center, academics, artists and different public and private institutions.
Project is based on four strategic axes (Heritage/Population, Housing and Communities, Economy/Environment and Mobility). It results from a methodological work supported by a multidisciplinary team from the University of Porto.
