New edition of the Ghent Light Festival in November 2021

The Ghent city council has set a new date for the next edition of the popular Ghent Light Festival. The event will take place from Wednesday, November 10 to Sunday, November 14, 2021.

Of course, the Ghent Light Festival can only take place if the health situation and the associated Covid-19 measures permit an event of that magnitude. The festival was initially scheduled from Wednesday January 27 to Sunday January 31, 2021, but had to be postponed. Now there is a new date, from Wednesday 10 to Sunday 14 November 2021.

“The Light Festival is one of the most popular and accessible free culture festivals in our city. In the autumn it should be possible to organize a Festival of Light as we know it. This is really something to look forward to, and the festival is intended for all the citizens of Ghent and visitors from other cities”. said Annelies Storms, Alderman for Festivities and Events.

Every three years, Ghent is illuminated with lights during the free Ghent Light Festival. This festival lights up the city with works by international light artists. The city’s nights will become a surprising spectacle with ingenious installations, spectacular performances and beautiful events, all based on light. It will offer the discovery of Ghent’s historic sites and monuments from a different angle and catch a glimpse of Ghent’s unique hidden charm after sunset.

The Ghent Light Festival will start every day at 7 pm and will end at midnight. On Sunday 14 November it starts at 6 pm to offer families with young children the opportunity to visit the festival. More information about the content of the festival, the participating artists and the route will be announced at a later date.
