Mayor Ludwig awarded Ambassador Li with Grand Decoration of Honor
Mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig awarded Ambassador Li Xiaosi from the People’s Republic of China with the Grand Decoration of Honor for his Service to Vienna.
Mayor Ludig said: “As Mayor of the Capital of Culture, Vienna, I am of course particularly pleased that the cultural ambassadors of our city – the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna State Opera, the Vienna Boys’ Choir, but also the various Viennese Balls in Beijing – are so well received in your home country.”
Ambassador Li, a representative of a new generation of Chinese ambassadors, specializes in European policy and he is appointed as Ambassador to Austria from 2016.
Talking about great diplomatic relations between Austria and China, mayor Ludwig emphasized: “In this context, I would like to recall an initiative after the outbreak of the Covid-19 crisis that clearly bears your signature. I am talking about the 39,000 FFP2 masks that were distributed to the Viennese last year – through your mediation – by our very well integrated Chinese community. This spontaneous help in the middle of the crisis was a strong sign of solidarity between Beijing and Vienna”.
The laudation for Mr. Li Xiaosi was held by former Austrian President Heinz Fischer, while some of the guests at the ceremony were the First President of the Vienna Parliament Ernst Woller, the Member of the National Council Maria Großbauer and the diplomat Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal.
